LVP is the most forgiving: sweep or vacuum (bare floor setting, no beater bar) as needed, then damp mop weekly with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Tile holds up to more frequent wet mopping, but grout lines need their own attention — a soft brush and grout-safe cleaner every couple of weeks keeps them from staining. Carpet wants a real vacuum pass two to three times a week in high-traffic rooms, with a slower, overlapping pattern that actually lifts embedded dirt instead of just skimming the surface.

Dry-sweeping infrequently lets grit sit and grind in with every footstep, acting like sandpaper. And skipping felt pads under furniture legs is a slow, quiet way to dent or scratch almost any hard-surface floor.

Seasonal Maintenance for Georgia's Climate

Metro Atlanta's humidity swings hit solid hardwood the hardest — expect slight gaps in the dry winter months and boards tightening back up (sometimes cupping if things get too wet) at the height of summer. Keeping indoor humidity steady in the 35-55% range with your HVAC, and running a dehumidifier in basements, does more for hardwood longevity than any cleaner on the shelf. Fall and winter bring their own issue: pine straw, mud, and grit tracked in from outside, so a good exterior mat at every entrance earns its keep.
